What is Real-Time PCR?

Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (also known as quantitative PCR or qPCR) is a highly sensitive and specific technique that monitors the amplification of DNA or cDNA in real time using fluorescent reporters. Unlike conventional PCR, qPCR allows precise quantification of starting template amounts during the exponential phase, making it the gold standard for gene expression analysis, viral load determination, and pathogen detection.

Reverse Transcription qPCR (RT-qPCR) additionally converts RNA to cDNA, enabling quantification of mRNA, miRNA, and other RNA molecules.
